Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using the Seismikon website ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). If you disagree with any part of these Terms, you may not access the Service.

Research and Educational Purpose

Seismikon is a research demonstration platform implementing earthquake nowcasting methodology developed by Dr. Anastasios N. Bikos (University of Patras, Greece). The Service is provided for:

  • Educational and informational purposes
  • Scientific research demonstration
  • Academic collaboration and discussion

Earthquake Forecast Disclaimer

IMPORTANT: All earthquake forecasts provided through this Service are experimental and for informational purposes only. You acknowledge and agree that:

  • Earthquake prediction is an evolving scientific field with inherent uncertainties
  • Forecasts should not be used as the sole basis for critical safety decisions
  • You must always follow official guidance from government agencies and emergency services
  • We make no guarantees about the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of forecasts
  • The Service is a demonstration using California as an example region

No Warranty

The Service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:

  • Accuracy or reliability of earthquake forecasts
  • Uninterrupted or error-free operation
  • Fitness for a particular purpose
  • Non-infringement of third-party rights

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Seismikon, its affiliates, and its researchers shall not be liable for any:

  • Direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
  • Loss of life, property damage, or personal injury
  • Business interruption or loss of profits
  • Damages arising from reliance on earthquake forecasts
  • Errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in the Service

Intellectual Property

The research methodology is based on peer-reviewed work by Dr. Anastasios N. Bikos. All content, features, and functionality of the Service are owned by Seismikon and are protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You may not:

  • Reproduce or redistribute our content without attribution
  • Use our research data for commercial purposes without permission
  • Claim ownership of the nowcasting methodology
  • Reverse engineer or copy our algorithms

Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to cause public panic or spread misinformation
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers
  • Impersonate Seismikon or its researchers
  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations

Research Collaboration

For custom regional implementations or research partnerships, separate agreements may be required. The Service itself does not constitute an offer of professional seismological services.

Third-Party Links

Our Service may contain links to third-party websites or services that are not owned or controlled by Seismikon. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Seismikon, Dr. Anastasios N. Bikos, and affiliated researchers from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States and the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
